A story of J&K HIM GEI GEI: Miss Hong Kong from a pubic housing estates 

"Even public housing estates have Miss Hong Kong!" This sentence inspired the owner of J&K HIM GEI GEI, who was able to stand on the stage with Gei Gei at the CFA International Division Awards Banquet 2023 .

 

A few years ago, Gei Gei's owner brought him from the cattery, and then she had little contact. Until one day, Gei Gei's owner sent a message, saying that she wanted to let Gei Gei participate in a cat show, so we made an appointment to meet and understand his situation.

 

At that time, Gei Gei had grown a lot, but he still had a long way to go to meet the cat show requirements. In order not to discourage Gei Gei's owner, we suggested that she could try the household pet class competition first, and let Gei Gei gain some competition experience before considering participating in the pedigree cat premiership class competition.

 

However, Gei Gei's owner insisted on letting him participate in the pedigree cat premiership class competition, so we had to answer: How about taking Gei Gei back to the cattery for a grooming session first, to prepare for the competition? Unexpectedly, Gei Gei's owner said that she would bathe him herself, and so, Gei Gei participated in his first cat show in his cat life with a "greasy" appearance.

 

That competition was not successful, but it made Gei Gei's owner work harder to learn about grooming, nutrition and other aspects, hoping to give Gei Gei a chance to enter the final. In the continuous improvement and attempts, although sometimes they could also qualify for the final, the owner's psychological state gradually lost confidence, feeling that as long as they could accumulate enough points, let Gei Gei obtain the title of Grand Premier, she could end his exhibition career.

 

The lucky god seemed to see the owner's efforts all along. In the two-day cat show, he just accumulated enough points on the first day, making Gei Gei a Grand Premier, and participated in the Sunday transfers on the second day. After that, every competition result made us feel like riding a roller coaster, until all the competitions of the season were over, this roller coaster stopped.

 

Here, we want to thank Gei Gei's owner (Sandy Li) for expressing gratitude to the cattery many times. At the same time, we also want to thank you for your love and care for Gei Gei, letting him grow up healthy and happy. Even if he often breaks the decorations in the house, you still think he is the cutest cat.

 

We also remember your story of taking Gei Gei to the clinic for a rabies vaccination. When the veterinarian asked you why you wanted to give him this injection (Hong Kong law does not stipulate that cats must be vaccinated against rabies), you told him that it was because you wanted to let him participate in a cat show competition. The veterinarian answered you with a disdainful tone, but you firmly said: "Even public housing estates have Miss Hong Kong!"

 

This sentence seems to embody a kind of "Lion Rock spirit", which symbolizes the life attitude of striving hard, never giving up, and working hard. It is like what Gei Gei's owner showed on you. In the past few years, Hong Kong has experienced a lot of things that have eroded many people's fighting spirit and made many people forget this spirit and perseverance.

 

J&K HIM cattery has always been proud of being able to establish and develop in this blessed land (Hong Kong). We name our cats after Hong Kong's characteristic characters, things and events, hoping that they can be like Hong Kong people and break out of Hong Kong and go to the international stage.

屋邨都有港姐！

 

「屋邨都有港姐！」這句話激勵了忌忌（J&K HIM GEI GEI）的主人，讓她能夠在CFA國際分區頒獎典禮2023上與忌忌一同站在台上。

 

數年前，忌忌主人從貓舍帶了他回家，之後便很少聯絡。直到有一天，忌忌主人發來訊息，表示想讓忌忌參加貓展比賽，於是我們約了時間見面，了解他的近況。

 

當時的忌忌已經長大了不少，但要達到參展的條件還有一段距離。為了不打擊忌忌主人的信心，我們建議她可以先試試家貓組比賽，讓忌忌獲得一些參賽經驗後，再考慮參加血統貓絕育組比賽。

 

然而，忌忌主人堅持要讓他參加血統貓絕育組比賽，於是我們只好回答：不如先帶忌忌回貓舍做一次美容，為參加比賽做好準備？沒想到，忌忌主人表示自己會替他洗澡，就這樣，忌忌以「油立立」的形象參加了他貓生中的第一場比賽。

 

那次比賽沒有成功，但卻讓忌忌主人更加努力地學習美容、營養等方面的知識，希望能讓忌忌有機會進入總決賽。在不斷的改進和嘗試中，雖然有時也能入選總決賽，但主人的心理狀態已經漸漸失去信心，覺得只要能累積足夠的分數，讓忌忌獲得超級絕育貓（Grand Premier） 的頭銜，就可以結束他的展場生涯。

 

幸運之神似乎看到了主人一直以來的付出，在兩天的賽事中，第一天剛好累積了足夠的分數，讓忌忌成為超級絕育貓，並在第二天參加了轉組賽事（Sunday transfers)。之後每場賽事的結果，都讓我們像坐過山車一樣心情起伏，直到賽季所有的賽事都結束了，這場過山車才算停下來。

 

  

在此，我們要感謝忌忌主人（Sandy Li）多次向貓舍表達謝意。同時，我們也要感謝您對忌忌的愛護和關心，讓他健康、開心地成長。即使他常常弄壞家中的裝飾品，您仍然認為他是最可愛的貓。

 

我們還記得您分享帶忌忌去診所注射狂犬症預防針時的故事。當獸醫問您為什麼要給他注射這種針劑（香港法例並沒有規定貓隻必須要注射狂犬症疫苗），您告訴他是因為要讓忌忌參加貓展比賽。獸醫用一種不屑的語氣回答您，您卻堅定地說：「屋邨都有港姐！」。這句話彷彿體現了「獅子山精神」，象徵著努力拼搏，不屈不撓，發奮向上的生活態度，就像忌忌主人在您身上展現的一樣。過去幾年，香港經歷了很多的事情，消磨了不少人的鬥志，也令不少人忘記了這份精神和執著。
