Thanks for Cat's Life 之生活  for the interview again.

Angel white Himalayan and Exotic
Being a princess, Persian dresses up with pure white fur. Its blue eyes shine like sapphires. It is the apple in your eyes. We invited one of the founders of J&K HIM Cattery, Joe, together with white Himalayan J&K HIM Fan Fan、Exotic Shorthair J&K HIM Fu Fu and Exotic Longhair J&K HIM Pik Pik to our studio. They will show us how to take care of cats with pure white fur. Definitely, we will enjoy staying together with these lovely cats.

Joe was interviewed few years ago. He said he was attracted by blue eye Persian cats at the beginning. However, blue eye Persian has a higher chance of being deaf. Then, Joe started cultivating blue eye Himalayan cats, which come from Persian bloodline. Himalayan looks like Persian but with blue eyes and pointed colour, which is because of the DNA of Siamese cats.

Under the CFA Standard, there are five Division Colours of Persian. Himalayan belongs to one of Persian Division Colours. That is the reason why Himalayan can also be called Persian. Many Breeders tried to develop a healthy blue-eye Himalayan including Joe.

Why Joe loves white Persian with blue eyes? He explained that many cat owners share a dream of keeping a pure white cat. White fur with blue eyes is the perfect match that he loves. He dreams his perfect cat as a little girl wearing in blue colour with a white skirt.  When running and jumping, "Elegant" is the only word to describe the scene. Joe spent much time on developing his dream cat and finally he succeed. Although it takes longer to handle with the white dream cat, Joe said it's worth it.

For a set of for quadruplets, Joe named J&K HIM Jok Jok (Congee), J&K HIM Fun Fun (Vermicelli) and J&K HIM Mei Mei (noodle). The youngest one named J&K HIM Fan Fan (Rice). The mother of Fan Fan is a CPC White Persian while his father is a Himalayan. Fan Fan is the only child with Himalayan blue eyes and white fur. As a Himalayan, he shows a classic characteristic - talkative. Joe said Fan Fan would keep yelling if he think his owner has missed something, like feeding him. Fan Fan is a cheerful cat but timid. Joe took a bath for four kittens when they were one month old, only Fan Fan felt nervous and kept meowing.

Joe always take pictures with his lovely cats with smartphone and camera. Fan Fan is so active that makes it more difficult to get a nice shot. "When my camera pointed at Fan Fan, he knew and ran alway so quick. Unless you hold him, you cannot stop him." Joe said. Video recording is the only way for Joe to record Fan Fan’s happy moments.

J&K HIM Fu Fu and J&K HIM Pik Pik are two of quintuplets. Their mother is an odd-eyed White Persian while their father is having  recessive odd-eyed gene Exotic Shorthair. Therefore, Fu Fu is the only pure white Exotic Shorthair and Pik Pik is the only odd-eyed Exotic Longhair. Someone may feel strange about the odd-eyed cats. However, this is the result of breeders' effort. The odd-eyed character will be expressed by chance only if both parents are carrying this recessive gene. The odd-eyed condition rarely occurs in cats that lack both the dominant white and the white spotting gene.

The quintuplets are named behind a famous Cantonese film Fu Kwai Pik Yan Loi (Chinese direct translation of "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad World”). The elder sister named Fu Fu while the litter brother named Pik Pik. Fu Fu is active and ambitious in playing toys which is different from Pik Pik. Joe said Pik Pik remained calm even you put toys in front of him. He plays gracefully as a gentleman.
